A fortress island. A Venetian guard. A sacred place. A silent rock.
Spinalonga

A sea monster trapped in shallow waters. A turtle holding wars and battles in its carapace lost in the centuries. Blood and pain. Defeats and victories. Squalidness of human bodies and lost of self respect.

Whatever people bring forth from their heart hangs on this carapace like a greedy shell. Like a tired fighter that tries to open his own hole in order to rest, he builds his personal nest in time, trying to find his own place in history.

However, the pain is unbearable, rising among leaves and eternal stone walls. A unique live pebble dropped in this gulf by an invisible hand, while water remains still agitated.

Like tears dropped from red, wet eyes created by the fatigue following a battle finally won, leaving though thousands of corpses behind. A battle like all the others against an invisible enemy. One of those enemies that human beings spend time or even their lives to meet. And once they meet, they try to fight, to face, to win.

An incredibly hot sun. The blue sea full of boats transferring visitors. Like the brigs that used to transfer seamen, pirates and fighters. Like those brigs that used to transfer sick people. Laughter that once led to tears and pain. But human beings cannot stop being thirsty, cannot stop hoping.

Thirsty for knowledge; hoping for cure.
